Summer Fete’s and Cricket……How Very English!!

Posted on June 15, 2009

It was a Dad and boys weekend this week and we did varying events to keep us busy. On Saturday we went to East Tytherly fete with Di and co followed by dinner at the Tally Ho where the boys got a go in a WW2 American Army truck owned by one of the locals who after an hour in his company you feel like you have had a history lesson. His father fought and survived the DD landings and it has been a hobby of his from boy to man, he has two other vehicles and arsenal of weapons from the war which he says will be his pension.

Yesterday I played for North Waltham against Dummer, where I was made captain on the basis none of our team had played for 10 years or more, and some had never played before. At 13ys old George was our most experienced and knowledgeable player. We both took a wicket and both got a paltry four runs, mine coming in a Boycott manner after an hour at the crease, George with one whack, then out next ball. We lost in the last over of the game, but it was a lovely day, so what more could you ask for.
